Welcome to MJJ Tuition, founded by Martin. I am a qualified Secondary Maths Teacher with QTS, enhanced DBS and a PGCE in Secondary Mathematics. I earned Bachelor of Science degree in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics (1st class Honours) from The London School of Economics and Political Science. With fifteen years of tutoring and classroom teaching experience, I now bring my enthusiasm, passion and dedication to tutoring, coaching and mentoring students outside of the classroom. One of my biggest strengths has always been the ability to break things down, understand them from the building blocks up, and then present them in a simple and easily digestible manner. I am also patient and a good listener, with the ability to understand the way someone else thinks about а problem. I think it’s these qualities, along with my passion for maths, that combined to make maths tutoring my niche.

Tutoring over 10000 hours and 100s of students within both a group setting and a one to one basis has also provided the invaluable experience in what is required to help students, with differing starting levels of confidence and prior attainment, to achieve their goals.

During my teaching career I have undertaken roles including Lead Teacher for Key Stage 4 Maths, Numeracy Across the Curriculum and Assistant Coordinator of Key Stage 5 Maths. This has facilitated development of whole-school impact strategies, while cultivating an expert subject knowledge and pedagogy across multiple key stages. I have gained experience of exam preparation for a variety of examination boards while also being employed as an examiner, allowing me to accumulate valuable insight into the methodology and marking of exams.

Our mission is simple. The ingredients are fundamental. Time, energy, empathy, patience and consistency. We focus on developing confidence and self belief so that students are not afraid to make mistakes and are willing to take risks in their learning approach. We foster and nurture resilience so that students are open minded when faced with challenges throughout their learning journey. We strive to intrigue students and help them develop an intrinsic appreciation of the process of learning. We develop fluency and mastery in key concepts which promotes a deeper understanding and ability to form connections across different strands of curriculum. Our pedagogy incorporates a variety of educational resources and technology to maximise learning, progress and confidence, while employing various approaches, resources, and questions.
